"Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress — such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems or workplace and financial stressors. Resilience is not a trait that people either have or do not have. It involves behaviors, thoughts and actions that can be learned and developed in anyone.” - American Psychological Association
I believe at the core of every individual are the potential building blocks for resiliency. This is my guiding principle for the therapy work I do, as well as for myself. If you feel the time is right to talk about the difficulties you or your family are experiencing, then you've come to the right place.
I provide a safe and confidential space for youth (10+), adolescents, young adults and parents. The therapeutic process is a unique opportunity to be listened to and heard in a non-judgmental environment. It is a valuable experience where you will gain insights and learn strategies to better understand your feelings, your strengths, your triggers and your goals. I am an advocate for your individual well-being and for the relationships you have with yourself, your family, your friends and your community. My clients are people who are working to find the best path forward for themselves despite circumstances and/or life events beyond their control. My commitment is to honor and value their time and energy and what they bring to this space.
Experience
I have worked with children, adolescents, families and young adults in Austin for almost 30 years in various settings. Most recently I worked as the Senior Clinical Social Worker at The Adolescent Medicine Clinic at Dell Children’s Medical Group. I was part of the Integrated Behavioral Health team at UT Dell Medical School’s Dept. of Health Social Work. I have also worked as a Clinical Social Worker in the ER at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, with Williamson County schools as a school-based Mental Health Counselor and with The Christi Center as the Coordinator of School-Based Services. I began my career as a Special Education teacher (providing inclusion, resource and SCORES) for 13 years with the Austin Independent School District.
Boutique Educational Services (BES)
While working as a Special Education teacher, I spent 10 years at Casis Elementary. That is where I met Lauren Bajwa, my co-worker and very good friend. In 2014 she opened BES to provide care-driven, student centered support that nurtures growth through meaningful relationships. BES services include personalized 1:1 instruction, Executive Functioning and social skills, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, home-school support and parent school support and advocacy. In 2023 I joined BES to add clinical services for students and parents. For more information about BES, please go here.
